During the fall and spring, gnats can be a pesky problem, even in the house. Any fresh fruit or vegetables that have not been put in the fridge or any garbage that has not been covered up is a great attraction to these little creatures. Gnats are nasty! But how does one get rid of them?
Here is an idea for a gnat trap, using an old water bottle. Simply cut off the bottom of the water bottle to make a small dish about one inch deep. Fill it about half full with vinegar and stir in a few squirts of liquid dish detergent. The gnats are attracted to the smell of the vinegar and congregate around the trap. After a while, they begin to go down into the trap to taste the vinegar, and then they fall in. The dish detergent in the vinegar causes the gnats to sink quickly to the bottom where they drown.
Place the gnat trap in the area where you have the most gnats. Leave until all the vinegar has evaporated. Then throw it away and make a new one.
